November 2013: Joan Baker
Ruth “Joan” (pronounced “Jo-anne”) Baker has been volunteering at the library since May of 2011. She started out shelving, and has filled in for other volunteers checking and pulling holds for circulation. Right now she volunteers in technical services putting spine labels on books. Joan moved to McMinnville from Tigard about two years ago, when her husband went to live at Fircrest care home. Joan is currently living with her daughter’s family, and is kept busy looking after her grandchildren. She has 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren! When I spoke with her on the phone, she was visiting one of her granddaughters in Texas for the Thanksgiving holidays. As for working in the library, Joan says she finds it “very pleasant” and she enjoys the people she works with.
