Toddlers
Reading with toddlers can be fun - and challenging too!
Here are some ideas to keep it fun for both of you:

  • Change your voice as you read the story.
  • Talk about the pictures and story.
  • Put your finger and your child's finger on the pictures as you read.
  • Let your child choose the books and help turn the pages
  • Ask questions and start conversations about the book.
  • Recite parts of the book as your go through your day.
  • Toddlers are squirmy - let them squirm.
  • Snuggle as you read.  Find a quiet time and place.
  • Mix it up. You don't have to read the book from start to finish or read every word.

Dialogic reading  is interacting with the book as you read it. It helps parents to develop their own rythmn as they read to their child.
